Woman consumes alcohol in auto, driver held

Some members of the public took video of the woman consuming liquor and smoking by sitting in the auto parked at Tiruvalluvar Thidal in Pollachi on Sunday.

As the video went viral in social media, the Coimbatore district Superintendent of Police Sujit Kumar ordered an investigation.

Police identified the auto driver as Selvakumar (48) from Vadugapalayam in Pollachi and the woman to be from Hyderabad.

“The woman whose identity is not known had come to Pollachi to meet her husband working here. While returning she hired an auto to reach bus stand, she bought the liquor from a Tasmac outlet midway and consumed by sitting in the auto,” police said.

Police booked the auto driver for allowing the woman to consume liquor in a public place andarrested him. The police also seized the auto from him.
