Inaugurating the world space week exhibition in Thanjavur, the senior scientist Ranganathan said that ISRO is working on the Gaganyaan project—the Indian Human Spaceflight program—which would be launched on 2022, and is designed to carry three persons.

Later, Ranganathan told reporters that space research is wrongly portrayed as a super human thing but it has been helping the common man. For instance, the body temperature of a fishermen fishing in the sea could be ascertained by the satellites and also satellites could help fishermen in locating the rich availability of fishes, he explained.

Similarly, satellites also help farmers by suggesting them the crops that would give them good yield during a particular season and satellites also give details on the monsoon rainfall helping the farmers to take up cultivation, he stated.

Stating that Chandrayaan-2 has united the people of India, Ranganathan said, setting aside their caste, religion, region and language, the people of India gave an overwhelming support to the scientists. The Thanjavur District Collector Annadurai and others were present at the event.
