Coming in the wake of complaints of private institutions not following norms beginning from admissions to records on infrastructure facilities, the State government is mulling over the implementation of the Education Management Information System (EMIS) in private schools to manage data pertaining to its administration, teachers, students and officials on a real time basis, sources said.
The School Education Department move to introduce the central data repository comes in the backdrop of complaints that many private institutions do not follow norms in admissions processes, recruitment drive, providing infrastructure facilities and in fee collection activities.
A senior official from the Directorate of School Education said that complete details of the educational institutions, such as buildings, playground facilities, water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) facilities will have to be uploaded by the respective headmasters to pave way for generating various reports by the authorities. “Now, the process of enrolment in accordance with Section 12(1)(c) of the RTE Act, 2009 is completely online, right from applying to schools to the validation and selection processes,” the official said, adding that this would ensure complete transparency in the processes.
The official said that through EMIS, private schools can easily apply online for the renewal of recognition and attach the required documents, which will then be reviewed by the authorities concerned before according the necessary approval. “The renewal certificate will be mailed online to the school upon approval,” the official added.
The official said that teachers’ details, including their qualification salary structure, must also be uploaded to the system. Teachers can use the provision for timetable management and prepare their lesson plans effectively for the classes, the official added.
Further, in a bid touted to reduce the administrative workload of school headmasters, important documents such as the attendance register and the sports register will be automated. The official said that EMIS would also help the authorities to keep track on students’ performance as all the details, including the photos of the pupil, would be uploaded. The details can be obtained easily either by searching with the Aadhaar number or the student’s ID.
