Police said Raj Mohan Kumar (43) from Odakkadu in Tirupur, had issued fake passports to several persons by taking huge amount. The fraud came to light, when Prem Kumar from Sri Lanka was detained few days ago in Chennai airport with a fake passport.
Inquiries with him revealed that he got the passport from Raj Mohan Kumar by paying Rs 28 lakh. After his criminal activities got exposed, Raj, who held the post of DMK’s Tirupur North district trade union organizer, was removed from the primary membership of the party. He is also running a petrol bunk and has been into textile business.
The Q branch police arrested him a few days ago in Chennai, when he was planning to go abroad on a business visit. His assistant identified as Bharathi from Rakkipalayam was later arrested from Tirupur. They were then remanded in judicial custody.
Meanwhile, a 14-member team led by Q branch DSP Kumaresan from Chennai brought Raj Mohan Kumar from Chennai to Tirupur for an inquiry on Thursday.
After a four-hour search, the police seized several incriminating documents from the house of the accused. A search was also conducted in his office. Police suspect a larger network of persons to have been involved in the illegal passport racket and further investigations are on to crack them down.
