Won’t attend functions, if banners placed: Stalin

Warning his party cadre that strict action would be taken if anyone failed to follow the order, the DMK president said he would not attend such functions in future. “Despite many warnings that the cadre should not erect banners that disturb the public, several functionaries still indulge in doing it,” Stalin said.

Pointing out that one or two banners could be erected, which would not trouble the public and that too with the proper permission of the authorities, he said, “It cannot be accepted if the banners and hoardings on the roads pose danger to the people.”

Echoing similar views of Stalin, Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president K S Alagiri also said that though court has issued several orders against illegal banners, people are still facing problem over the banner culture.

“Despite court’s ban on erecting illegal banners, officials still act unilaterally, which had created several issues in the recent past,” he said, adding “particularly the authorities do not take action when ruling party indulge in erecting flexi boards or banners”.

He also asked why the AIADMK government is not co-operating with the high court to control the erection of banners in the state. Referring to the death of the woman techie, Alagiri asked, “Who will hold responsibility for the death of R Subhasri?

The TNCC president also urged that a financial assistance of Rs 10 lakh should be extended to the family of the deceased from the AIADMK party trust funds.

“If Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami really respects the value of life, he should issue orders to the party cadre that they should not indulge in erecting banners or hoardings in future,” he added.
