4 killed as mini-van overturns near Sattur

The victims were workers of cracker manufacturing unit located at Salvarpatti near Vembakottai and they were traveling for work on Saturday morning when the fatal accident took place, sources said. Sattur Deputy Superintendent of Police Ramakrishnan and police personnel from Vembakottai inspected the accident site and held inquiries.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the driver of the speeding minivan lost control leading to the vehicle getting overturned near Subramaniyapuram. In the wake of the accident, emergency ambulance was rushed to the spot and the injured were taken to Government Hospitals in neighbouring Sattur and Sivakasi and also Madurai.

The four deceased were identified as Gurumuthu Ammal (50), Durai Pandi (19), Karthikraja (40) and Sundaramoorthy (32). Vembakottai police have filed a case and investigations are on. Vehicular traffic was affected for nearly an hour on the stretch until the accident site was cleared,sources added.
