According to police, the victim Ramesh (35), a lorry owner from Krishnanpudur in Ammapettai, was riding a two wheeler near Kullampatty near Karipatty on September 9, when two persons intercepted and attacked him with sickles.
Ramesh has been undergoing treatment in a serious condition at a private hospital in Salem. Meanwhile, Vijayan (29) from Ammapettai and Mohan (26) from Aathupalam area surrendered before Salem court in connection with the murder. Investigations by Karipatty police revealed that the duo were part of a gang hired by the victim’s relative Saroja.
She had a dispute with him over a 750 sq ft of ancestral land at Ammapettai. “She hatched a conspiracy to murder Ramesh and approached Ranjith, a history-sheeter from Salem. She agreed to pay Rs 5 lakh and gave Rs 3 lakh in advance to him to commit the murder,” police said.
Police said Ranjith had entrusted the task to his two accomplices Vijayan and Mohan. Police arrested Saroja and her relative Palanivel from their house. During a vehicle check in Karipatty, Ranjith, who was riding a bike, attempted to flee away into an isolated area along road side.
However, he fell off and suffered a fracture in his leg. He has been admitted in the Vazhapadi Government Hospital for treatment. Police seized Rs 2 lakh from his possession and further investigations are on.
