According to the police, Ramesh (35) from ABT Road and running a meat stall on College Road, was an alcoholic. Every day, he used to go home drunk and harass his two wives, Shanthi and Thilagavathi.Unable to bear his torture, the two women decided to help him kick his drinking habit, but became helpless after he refused to co-operate.

Following this, Shanthi and Thilagavathi gave Ramesh de-addiction drugs without his knowledge. On consuming the tablet, Ramesh felt drowsy and when questioned, his wives then spilled the beans.Enraged by this, Ramesh allegedly assaulted both the women brutally, resulting in the death of his first wife Shanthi on the spot, while Thilagavathi sustained serious injuries.

On hearing loud screams, Ramesh’s neighbours informed the police, who rushed to the spot and sent Thilagavathi, found battling for life to the Tirupur government hospital.

The body of the deceased woman was later sent for post mortem at the governmenthospital.

Meanwhile, Ramesh who went absconding from the scene of crime, surrendered before the Tirupur North police. Further investigations are on.
