In a shocking incident, a 69-year-old man ended his life by jumping into a well where his wife was found dead in Coimbatore on Wednesday, sources said.
According to the police, Krishnan (69) and his wife Saratha (64) from Irugur, were earning their livelihood by selling millet gruel on a push cart.
Krishnan had filed a missing complaint with the Singanallur police on Tuesday after his wife did not return home and could not be found anywhere. Meanwhile, the villagers noticed the body of the missing woman in a well in the neighbourhood on Wednesday.
“Krishnan who reached the spot had suddenly jumped into the well. His head landed on a rock protruding along the inner wall of the well before he fell inside the water,” police said. He died on the spot.
On receiving information, the fire and rescue personnel rushed to the spot and retrieved the bodies. The Singanallur police have registered a case and further investigations are on.
