The activist, Piyush Manush, had gone to the BJP office at Maravaneri seeking an explanation on the Kashmir issue, economic slowdown and other issues decided by the Central government. Earlier, he had made an announcement of his visit to the BJP office on social media.

Police said Manush entered the party office wearing a garland of slippers around 5 pm and raised a volley of questions against the BJP government, which irked the partymen, resulting in a quarrel breaking out. It suddenly snowballed into violence, when they reportedly assaulted the activist. The police, after rescuing him, took him to the Hasthampatty police station, where the activist lodged a complaint seeking action against the BJP workers for assaulting him.

Similarly, the BJP functionaries met Salem city police commissioner Senthil Kumar and submitted a petition against the activist for trespassing into the office and creating nuisance. An investigation is under way.
