According to G. Bensam, Inspector of Police, Paramakudi Town, the incident occurred around 4 pm when the car-in which five people including the driver were proceeding to Sathankulam, a village in Mandapam block in Ramanathapuram, from Madurai airport-hit a two-wheeler which was crossing the road.

S Usman Ali (58) along with daughters Thaslima Banu (37) and Ainul Arshya Banu (32), wife of S. Mohammed Kasali (39), were on the way back to Sathankulam after picking up Mohammed Kasali from the airport.

Investigations revealed that the car driver failed to apply brakes that led to losing control of the vehicle and subsequently hit the bike. Except Kasali, who sustained injuries in the incident, others who accompanied him succumbed to injuries in the accident. S Kumar (51) of Mani Nagar, Paramakudi, who rode the two-wheeler, also succumbed to injuries on the spot. V Senthil Kumar, the car driver hailing from Valanthurai, also escaped with minor injury. An injured Kasali was then admitted to the Paramakudi government hospital.

The Deputy Inspector General of Police (Ramanathapuram Range), Rupesh Kumar Meena, along with Superintendent of Police Omprakash Meena inspected the spot. The car driver was later secured.

Based on a complaint lodged by Kasali, who is said to be out of danger, the Emaneswaram police have filed a case under Sections 279,337 and 304 (A) of the IPC, sources said.
