Tension in Tondiarpet as black flags shown to TTV 

“The relief should not stop with the Chief Minister and Ministers visiting the flood-hit spots. The state failed in relief operations carried during Cyclone Gaja and this should not be repeated,” Dhinakaran told reporters after visiting his RK Nagar constituency in North Chennai.

To a query on the school education department insisting students not to wear sacred wrist threads in hands, Dhinakaran said that the issue should be dealt carefully as religious sentiments are also attached to it and at the same time any practice of casteism inside the school campus should be not allowed.

Earlier in the day, tension prevailed in Tondiarpet when a dozen AIADMK workers made an attempt to show black flags to AMMK leader TTV Dhinakaran during his visit.

Dhinakaran, who won the RK Nagar by poll, has been facing resistance from the ruling AIADMK camp during his recent visits to North Chennai. The AIADMK workers were asked to leave the place by police after noticing arrival of large number of AMMK workers.

Dhinakaran also took part in Aadi month temple festivals observed in RK Nagar and served meals for the devotees.

“There were seven members trying to disrupt the functions planned by AMMK in RK Nagar. AMMK workers who had arrived to greet our leader almost surrounded them but to prevent any clash we alerted the police and they chased them away,” senior AMMK functionary and former RK Nagar MLA P Vettrivel told DT Next.

Dhinakaran had accused the ruling AIADMK Ministers of poaching AMMK workers by offering cash and posts. A few Ministers are directly in touch with some of our functionaries offering up to Rs 10 lakh to join the ruling AIADMK, Dhinakaran said ahead of his RK Nagar visit.
