    A six-member gang including a young woman were arrested by the Coimbatore city police on Friday for abducting a financier and two others for ransom here.

    According to police, Gunasekaran (65) from Balaji lay out near Ganapathy here was into lending business. On conceiving a plan to abduct and extract money, Adhi Ganesan (44) from Sivananda Colony lured him into the trap by claiming that a farm has been put up for sale at a low cost.


    The financier was asked to call a woman from Thanjavur, Sathya (27) to fix the deal. After initial negotiations, Gunasekaran accompanied by his friend Johnson and driver Ragupathi had gone in a car on 13 August to meet her.


    While nearing Vinayagapuram, three others including Jayakumar (52) got into their vehicle. “They then threatened Gunasekaran, Johnson and Ragupathi at knife point and took them to a godown owned by one Govindaraj (50) at Udumalpet in Tirupur district,” police said. The gang members gagged and tied up the financier and two others and assaulted them demanding a huge ransom. “Unable to bear their torture Gunasekaran deposited Rs 60,000 in the account of Sathya by calling up his son. The accused persons also snatched away his gold ring and ATM card besides took his signature in blank cheques,” police said.


    The financier and two others managed to escape from the abductors and lodged a complaint in Saravanampatty police station. The police arrested Adhi Ganesan, Jayakumar, Sathya, Muthupandi (38), Senthil Kumar (41) and Govindaraj (50). Of them, Adhi Ganesan is a functionary of Adhi Tamilar Viduthalai Munnani. A search is on to nab four other members of the gang.
