Govt taking steps to improve quality of education: Pondy CM
Puducherry Chief Minister V Narayanasamy distributed the president’s police medal for distinguished service to B Ranganathan, Superintendent of police and S Jayabala, Sub-Inspector of police, at the Independence Day function held here on Thursday.

The Chief Minister also presented the Rajiv Gandhi police medal for meritorious service to twenty police personnel, Chief Minister’s commendation certificates and cash award to 44 personnel of Nettapakkam police station, medals to NCC cadets, Chief Minister’s commendation certificates and cash awards to meritorious persons, environment award, Green Award and awards to best field staffs of Health and Family Welfare Department.
T R Patinam police station in Karaikal region of the union territory was selected as the best police station for the year 2018 and Chief Secretary’s rolling trophy and a cash award of Rs 25,000 presented to S Perumal, Sub-Inspector of the station.
Sub-Inspector of police, Janaki and Assistant Sub-Inspector of police, Richard were selected for the Presidents’ police medal for meritorious service for the year 2019.
Speaking on the occasion, CM Narayansamy said that the sum of Rs 7,416 crore revised plan allocation was fully utilized for various developmental schemes here. The Commercial Tax Department here collected a revenue of Rs 2,131 crore for 2018-19 and Rs 767 crore till July in this fiscal. He said the total population in Puducherry is estimated around 13,94,026 in 2019 and almost 96 per cent of the population were provided with Aadhaar card.
Understanding the importance of education, his government is taking steps to enhance the quality of education here, CM said adding that for the purpose steps have been taken to set up digital class rooms in middle and high schools here.
The Puducherry Engineering college, Tagore Arts and Science College and Indira Gandhi Arts and Science College found a place in the National Institute of Ranking Framework, he said.
He also said that the central government approval has been obtained to convert the Pondicherry Engineering College into a technical University.
Exhibition on Sri Aurobindo begins
On the occasion of 73rd Independence Day, a special poster exhibition titled “Sri Aurobindo and Indian Freedom Movement” was inaugurated at Pondicherry University (PU) on Thursday, a statement said. The exhibition was inaugurated by Vice-Chancellor, Pondicherry University Gurmeet Singh. The exhibition, which would continue till August 25, 2019, highlights the momentous role Sri Aurobindo played in the early years of Indian freedom movement.
