150-ft-long Tricolour rally highlights the message of unity in diversity in Vellore
As India celebrated its 73rd Independence Day on Thursday with much vigour, students of a private school in Ambur held a procession led by MLA AC Vilwanathan, by carrying a 150 feet long national flag.

The procession began at Ambur bus stand and came to a halt only at the school for deaf on the Vellore-Bengaluru National Highway. In both the districts local school students put up colourful dances highlighting the motto unity in diversity. Similarly, in the historic Vellore fort, students of a private school honoured a 120 X 90 feet national flag by encircling and saluting.
Meanwhile, Vellore Collector A Shanmugasundaram and Tiruvannamalai Collector KS Kandasamy hoisted the national flag at their respective districts and inspected the guards of honour on the occasion of the 73rd Independence Day celebration on Thursday.
The Collectors honoured the freedom fighters and distributed awards to government employees, the officials said. He also added that the district administration distributed government assistance to the beneficiaries.
After the event, both the Collectors participated in the special gram sabha meetings in both the districts. While Kandasamy participated in a meeting at Vanniyandhal village panchayat in Tiruvannamalai panchayat union, Shanmugasundaram attended the meeting in Vallam village panchayat in Kaniyambadi panchayat union, in the outskirts of Vellore.
While Vellore SP Pravesh Kumar participated in the Vellore festivities, his counterpart MR Sibi Chakravarthy attended the events in Tiruvannamalai.
At VIT, University Chancellor G Viswanathan hoisted the national flag in the presence of Vice President Sekar Viswanathan, ED Sandhya Pentareddy, VC Anand Samuel, PRO VC S Narayanan while TN official languages committee member A Shankaran was the chief guest of the event.
