“Nalini has petitioned the Home Secretary to extend her leave by a month in connection with preparations for her daughter’s wedding,” her legal adviser P Pugazhenthi said on Tuesday.

The petition was sent to the government by Nalini on August 7 by speed post, Pugazhenthi added.

Nalini, meanwhile, following permission from authorities, visited her husband Sriharan alias Murugan in the Vellore Central Prison on Tuesday to discuss about the wedding of their daughter Haridhra. As per the parole condition, she is staying in Vellore.

Meanwhile, in a related development, even as the Madras High Court recently dismissed a petition filed by Nalini Sriharan seeking a direction to the Governor to countersign the resolution forwarded by the TN cabinet allowing her premature release and six other convicts, she has moved another plea seeking the government to implement the cabinet’s resolution. A division bench comprising Justice R Subbiah and Justice C Saravanan before whom the plea came for hearing on Tuesday adjourned the plea …after recording the state government’s submission that a convict cannot seek such a benefit as a matter of right.

The state while seeking to dismiss her plea also noted that the cabinet recommendation is pending with the Governor.
