The police said the accident took place when the car was nearing Ottakudisal, little away from Tiruvannamalai town. The car had crashed into the lorry and got caught under the chassis. After being dragged for some distance, it came to a halt after plunging into a ditch.

While Tiruvannamalai taluk police, who reached the spot, recovered two bodies, they called the fire and rescue the spot to retrieve the remaining three bodies that were stuck inside the disfigured car.

Fire personnel used an earthmover to detach the car from the lorry after which the three bodies were pulled out. All five bodies were sent to the Tiruvannamalai Government Medical College Hospital for post-mortem. The police have registered a case.

Lorry driver Rajinikanth (27), a native of Bargur in Krishnagiri district, who was injured in the accident, was admitted to the Tiruvannamalai Government Medical College Hospital.
