Trustee of home held for sexual abuse of minors

The four minors were the inmates of the Home, sources said on Monday. Chairman of District Child Welfare Committee VM Vijayasaravanan, when contacted, said that the incident came to light when the girls informed about the abuse to the school administration.

The victims were aged thirteen, fifteen and sixteen and the Home has been licensed under Department of Social Defence. When the issue caught the attention of Samayanallur Deputy Superintendent of Police after the mother of a victim lodged a complaint, a team led by the Chairman of the Committee, District Child Protection Officer Ganesan and members of the committee conducted a surprise inspection, which lasted from 11 am till 5.30 pm on Saturday.

After investigation, the victims were shifted from the Home and accommodated in a shelter home at Muthupatti in Madurai. The victims were ordered to undergo medical examination in hospital. Moreover, 21 others of the Home were also shifted to various shelter homes. A report in this regard was sent to Madurai Collector TS Rajasekar and also to the Commissioner of Social Defence for further action on the Home.
