“He visited The Nilgiris for mere publicity and political gains. Stalin will be there only for a day. But, we will stay there to provide complete rehabilitation to the affected people. Works are underway on a war footing by allocating funds,” the Chief Minister said to reporters, at Coimbatore airport on Monday.

Further, the CM said that the Deputy Chief Minister is visiting The Nilgiris to assess the damages, console affected people and take up necessary restoration works.

“Then, the extent of damage will be estimated and funds will be sought from the Centre for restoration works. Already the Revenue Minister had visited the hill district and speeded up restoration works,” he added.

Denying reports that water released from Mettur dam will not reach the tail end areas due to damage in the Mukkombu Barrage, Palaniswami said that all efforts have been taken to prevent water from draining waste into sea.

From Coimbatore, the Chief Minister is on a road trip to Salem to open Mettur dam on Tuesday morning.
