The water storage level in the dam touched 91 feet as against its full reservoir level of 120 feet and is rising faster due to copious inflow. From 1.15 lakh cusecs on Sunday the inflow has more than doubled to reach 2.4 lakh cusecs at 6 pm on Monday.

The storage level too rose sharply from 72.50 feet on Sunday to 91 feet on Monday. With abundant inflow, the water storage level has surged by 37 feet just in the last four days. It was 54 feet on August 9. When the water released from Karnataka reached Mettur dam on July 23, it had a storage of only 39.13 feet. With this, the dam’s storage has increased by 50 feet in around 21 days.

The release of water from the dam for drinking water requirements is 1,000 cusecs. Water flow into the dam is likely to go up further as Hogenakkal has recorded 2.65 lakh at 3 pm on Monday. If copious inflow continues, officials expressed hope that the dam may get filled up in another three days.
