“It was not intentional outburst. I wanted everything to be done as per norms. I wanted to make sure that those with donor passes to have darshan without any difficulty. I spoke in that manner in order to ensure that everybody was doing their duty. It was not against any individual or any department. In fact, the district administration and police department had been working in proper coordination so far,” the Collector said in interview to a private TV channel. Kancheepuram Superintendent of the police D Kannan was also present along with the collector in the interview.

The Collector’s outburst on Friday night against a police inspector, in which he threatened to suspend him in front of the devotees for reportedly allowing certain people without passes to go in ‘donor pass’ queue, garnered attention from the media.

Police personnel and retired officials had termed the Collector’s behaviour as unacceptable and demanded action against the official for reprimanding the police officer, who was on duty, in full public view.
