    Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit on Sunday led the State in conveying greetings on the eve of Eid-il-Adha, also called Bakrid.

    In his greetings, Governor Purohit said the day marks the ultimate sacrifice done by a devout father in the obedience to the will of God. The festival thus celebrates the need for total submission of one’s thoughts and deeds to the will of the Almighty, Purohit said in his greeting.


    Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, quoting verses from Islam’s holy book Quran, urged the people to imbibe the spirit of love, peace, humanity, virtue and unity on the auspicious day. “I wish happy Bakrid to the people of Islam... This day is celebrated to appreciate the sacrifice of Prophet Ibrahim who was ready to offer his only son to show his dedication to God,” he said. DMK president and Opposition Leader MK Stalin said this was a day that reminded all about the saying that true pleasure came from performing one’s duty. “I am happy that this day is celebrated by Muslims who are examples of humanity, sacrifice and compassion towards the poor. I convey my wishes,” he said. AMMK leader TTV Dhinakaran, MDMK general secretary Vaiko MP and PMK leader S Ramadoss among others also extended their greetings.


    Puducherry Chief Minister V Narayanasamy on Sunday greeted the Muslim community in the union territory on the occasion of Bakrid.
