Salem adjudged best Corpn, Dharmapuri best municipality
Salem, the home district of Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, has added another feather in its cap by bagging the best performing Corporation award.

According to a Government Order (GO), the Commission of Municipal Administration (CMA) has recommended Salem as the best performing Corporation in the state. CMA has also recommended Dharmapuri as the best performing Municipality in the state.
The recommendations were accepted by the State government and the towns will get the Chief Minister’s Award. Vedaranyam and Aranthangi were selected as the second and third best performing Municipalities by the government, respectively.
The award will carry cash price for every category. Salem Corporation will receive Rs 25 lakh while Dharmapuri will receive Rs 15 lakh along with the award. Vedaranyam and Aranthangi Municipalities will receive Rs 10 lakh and Rs 5 lakh, respectively.
The Chief Minister’s award which carries a citation along with the cash price will be presented on the occasion of Independence Day celebrations, on Thursday. The award was first announced by Municipal Administration and Water Supply Minister, SP Velumani, in the budget session of 2012-13 while moving the demand for the department. The government allocated Rs 55 lakh per year as grant for the award every year which included award for best performing Corporation and top three best performing Municipalities in the state.
There are 14 Corporations and 121 Municipalities in the State. In 2018, Tiruppur Corporation bagged the best performing Corporation Award while Kovilpatti, Cumbum and Sirkazhi Municipalities bagged the top three best performing Municipalities, respectively.
