Police identified the deceased as Chandran (53), working as a karate master in a private school. Chandran, his wife Mangayarkarasi (50 ) and their son Chanakya (13) were asleep inside their house at Savandappur near Gobi in Erode district.
In the middle of night, a thief entered their house by breaking open the front door and stealthily snatched the chain worn by Mangayarkarasi. “She then woke up and raised an alarm. Immediately Chandran began to chase the culprit, who ran out of house,” police said.
As the snatcher vanished into dark, Chandran returned home and took his bike to go in search of the culprit. Upon going a little distance from house, Chandran lost his balance and fell off the vehicle. In the impact, Chandran suffered serious injury on his head and died on the spot.
On receiving information, the Gobi police rushed to the spot and sent the body of the deceased for post mortem examination at Gobi Government Hospital. A case has been registered and a search is on to nab the chain snatcher. Further inquiry is on.
