Sibling killed after dispute over water for fields
A man allegedly murdered his younger brother in Ariyalur district during a dispute over irrigating fields. He was later arrested along with his friend on Friday.

According to sources, Govindaraj (50) of Parpanacherry near Varanavasi in Ariyalur was left to share his father’s property with his four siblings soon after the passing of his father.
Govindaraj and his younger brother Ramalingam shared a common bore well for irrigation purposes.
Against this backdrop, on Thursday night, Govindaraj who had cultivated ladies finger in his share of land asked his brother Ramalingam to release water from the bore well. However, Ramalingam refused and this prompted a heated argument between the brothers, sources said.
During the verbal duel, Govindaraj suddenly took the aruval in his possession and attacked Ramalingam, making him sustain severe injuries in the attack. Ramalingam soon fell down in a pool of blood and died on the spot, sources said. On information, the Ariyalur police rushed to the spot and arrested Govindaraj.
The police also arrested Venkatesan (31), Govindaraj’s friend for allegedly aiding the main accused in the murder. Further investigations are on.
