Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister agrees to release 8 tmc to Chennai
Ministers SP Velumani, D Jayakumar and Principal Secretary Munivasan met Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy here on Friday and appealed him to release water to Tamil Nadu through the Telugu Ganga canal.
The Chief Minister responded favourably to the request.After meeting Jagan Mohan Reddy, Local Administration Minister SP Velumani and Fisheries Minister D Jayakumar told reporters that the AP CM has agreed to release 8 tmc of water to parched Chennai under Telugu Ganga project through the Krishna river.
“On behalf of Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, we met AP CM Jagan and explained the prevailing water crisis in Chennai. The neighbouring state has agreed to release 8 tmc of water. The AP government will release water from Srisailam reservoir and it will reach the Kandaleru dam.
After reaching Kandaleru, the Krishna river water will drain into TN’s Poondi catering to Chennai,” Velumani explained.
When asked when the water will come to Chennai, Velumani said 2.7 tmc of water is assured to be released immediately and another 1.3 tmc is to be added in couple of days. By the end of this month AP will release four more tmc, Velumani added.
