Rename Kohinoor Mahal after Subramaniya Siva, demands BJP
After removing of the special status for Jammu and Kashmir and reducing it to a Union Territory, the state BJP now wants the government to remove the name of former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Sheikh Abdullah from Kohinoor Mahal in Kodaikanal.

Speaking to DT Next, Professor Srinivasan, BJP state secretary said, “Sheik Abdullah is a person who sowed the seeds of separatism in Jammu and Kashmir and state should not have his name for Kohinoor Mahal. The mahal should be renamed after freedom fighter, Subramaniya Siva, who hails from Dindigul district.”
In the Kashmir Conspiracy case, Sheik Abdullah was arrested in the later 1950s and was imprisoned in Kohinoor Mahal in Kodaikanal. In memory of Sheikh Abdullah’s arrest, stategovernment named Kohinoor Mahal after Sheik Abdullah.
However, recently BJP government at the Centre removed the special status for Jammu and Kashmir conferred under Articles 370 and 35A of Indian Constitution and reduced the state to a union territory. Srinivasan said that by removing the special status the separatist forces would be dealt severely and people with separatist thoughts would be sent behind bars.
It is the right time to remove the name of Sheikh Abdullah and to rename the Kohinoor Mahal after Subramaniya Siva, who has dedicated his entire life for the nation, said Srinivasan.
