Multiple collision in Pudukkottai NH claims five lives
Five people, including two women, died on the spot in Pudukkottai district on Wednesday in an accident that involved seven cars colliding one after the other after one of the vehicles reportedly suffered a tyre burst.

According to sources, an SUV bound for Tiruchy from Pudukkottai while reaching Narthamalai on the Tiruchy-Rameswaram national highway suffered a tyre burst around 5 pm. This led to the car running amok before colliding with another car that was coming from the opposite direction. In the impact, the vehicles that were behind collided one after the other with the vehicles, and a few even toppled on the road, sources said.
In the impact, five people, including the driver of one of the vehicles, Chidambaram (47) from Thudaiyur in Pudukkottai district, Rangarajan (45), Karthik (35) and Nagarathinam (65)-all from Muthukadu-died on the spot. Around 15 other people, including four children, sustained injuries in the incident.
On information, the police along with the public rushed to the spot and involved in rescue operations. They then rushed the injured to the Pudukkottai medical college hospital.
Meanwhile, Pudukkottai Collector Uma Maheswari, SP Selvaraj and other officials rushed to the spot and held inquiries. They also visited the injured victims and consoled them, sources said.
