Plastic bottles are banned from August 15 in Nilgiri
The ban imposed on plastic water bottles will be implemented in Nilgiri from 15th August. Drinking water ATMs will be installed in important places.

Chennai High Court imposed an order to ban water and soft drink bottles made of plastic to make Nilgiri a plastic-free district.Â
Abiding by the Court’s decision, Nilgiri Collector Innocent Divya ordered that one litre plastic water bottles and soft drink bottles will be banned from August 15. This ban will be executed in National and State Highways initially.Â
For the convenience of the tourists, water ATMs will be installed in 70 areas. It will be installed in places near National and State highways like Ooty, Coonoor, Gudalur, Nellukkottai and the partition areas. On behalf of the department of Tourism, it will be introduced in Doddabetta mountain peak, Udhagai boat house, Pykara boat house.
On behalf of the department of horticulture, it will also be stationed in Udhagai Government Botanical garden, Government Rose garde, Coonoor Sims park, Kattery park. One litre refined water can be obtained for Rs 5 from these water ATMs.
This move is much appreciated by the people and the environmental enthusiasts.
