Kashmiris backstabbed, may lead to civil unrest: Vaiko
MDMK leader Vaiko on Monday said that August 5 will be remembered by Kashmiris as a day when they were backstabbed by the Union government.

Vaiko met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his office and submitted a memorandum demanding government not to remove the special status conferred to Jammu and Kashmir. He also warned the Centre that if Jammu and Kashmir is ripped of its power, there will be international intervention and Kashmir problem will become like Kosova, South Sudan and East Taimur.
In the Rajya Sabha, while delivering his address, Vaiko said, “I shed blood as tears on seeing the Bill that scraps Articles 370 and 35A and takes away the powers of Jammu and Kashmir. I strongly condemn the Bill.”
Vaiko also blamed the Congress for the current position of Kashmir. “Former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru promised that plebiscite would be conducted in Jammu and Kashmir, but he did not honour the promise. Later, by imposing President’s rule in Jammu and Kashmir on several occasions, Congress started committing murder of democracy in the state,” said Vaiko.
He further said that the Congress did the first treacherous act on Kashmir and now BJP had now done the irrevocable mistake. The Bill will weaken Kashmir and the state will face more trouble in the future as Afghanistan is one side, Pakistan is in the next side and terrorist organisations such as Al-Qaeda and Taliban are on the other side, cautioned Vaiko.
