A bill to form National Medical Commission as a replacement to Indian Medical Council was passed by the Central Government. As per the new bill National Medical Commission has introduced ‘NEXT’ has made it mandatory for the students to practice medicine post MBBS.

This new bill has created a stir among the students of the Madras medical college and they staged a protest today in Rajiv Gandhi General Hospital.

One of the students who stated his disapproval said, “The Government is implementing a method called Community Health Provider through which recognises a person with just six month training, as a doctor whilst the students studying medicine for five years are made to write NEXT exam to go further in the field”.

They are protesting against the revision of fee structure of the private colleges. They also demanded to form Indian Medical Council rather than the National Medical Commission and to implement the ancient medical practice instead of the modern scientific medical system.
