Trains delayed due to damage at level crossing bar
Traffic came to a halt on the Vasanthapuram – Kaspa road in Vellore and two passenger trains on the Katpadi-Villupuram section were held up for nearly two hours when a generator van which tried to cross the railway track was caught in the middle on Friday.
Vellore
The incident occurred when the van was entering Vellore from Konavattam and tried to cross the track while the level crossing bar was being lowered. The metal barricade under the bar hit against the roof of the van, halting it.
Following this, power supplied to the overhead railway lines got snapped and the Arakkonam – Katpadi passenger train was halted at the Katpadi railway station, while the Villupuram – Tirupathi passenger train was held up at Vellore cantonment station.
Officials from Katpadi railway station rushed to the spot and restored normalcy which halted vehicular traffic for nearly two hours.
