Election Commission issues 48-hour prohibited period guidelines for Vellore
The Election Commission on Friday issued 48 hour prohibited period guidelines for all political functionaries and directed the outsiders brought for campaign purpose to leave Vellore constituency by Saturday evening 6 pm.

The EC also said that the vehicle permits given for candidates and star campaigners would be valid only till Saturday.
Chief Electoral Officer Satyabrata Sahoo in a statement said as the general election to Vellore parliamentary constituency will be held on Monday from 7 am to 6 pm, poll regulations would come into operation from 6 pm on August 3. As per the provisions of 126 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, no one shall convene, hold or attend any public meeting or procession in connection with an election during the restricted time. No one shall display to the public any election matter by means of TV, radio, social media, SMS and internet.
All political functionaries, party workers have been brought from other areas should leave the constituency immediately after 6 pm on Saturday. Marriage halls, community halls, lodges, guest house would be checked to find out whether the outsiders have been accommodated in these premises. Vehicle permits given to candidates including star campaigners would cease to be valid with effect from Saturday, he said.
No one shall propagate any election message through musical concert or any theatrical performance. Any violation of this and above two provisions is punishable with imprisonment for 2 years or fine or both, with reference to Section 126 (2) of the Representation of the People Act the CEO said.
On the day of polling, a candidate is entitled to one vehicle for his own use in respect of the entire constituency. In addition, one vehicle for use of his election agent in the Parliamentary constituency will be allowed. No candidate shall be allowed to hire or procure or use vehicle by candidate or his agent for transporting the voters to polling stations. The above practice is an on offence punishable under Section 133 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951.
Temporary campaign office of the candidates, political parties can be set up only 200 metres outside the polling station with only 2 persons.
