Rousing welcome for D Raja in city
Former Rajya Sabha member D Raja, who visited the city for the first time after taking over as the CPI’s general secretary, was given a rousing reception by his party cadre at the airport on Wednesday.
Chennai
A large number of party workers gathered at the city airport to receive CPI leader Raja after he assumed the charge as party chief on July 21.
“I was elected as CPI general secretary at a time of challenging political situation in the country. The party has given me a big responsibility. I believe I will take it forward successfully,” Raja said about his role as the party general secretary.
Raja also spoke about his immediate task to strengthen unity among Left parties in spite of minor differences. Raising concern over passage of bills in Parliament “without scrutiny,” he said one wonders whether it was functioning as per the vision of makers of the Constitution.
“No bill is sent to standing committees in Lok Sabha or select committees in Rajya Sabha for scrutiny. They are passed as it is because of BJP’s majority. Neither are they ready to listen to the Opposition to review the provisions of bills,” he told reporters here.
Referring to the Right to Information Act Amendment Bill that was passed in the ongoing session recently, Raja said, “in the name of amendment, the content of the act has been sabotaged by the BJP-led government.”
