    Nellai triple murder: Weapons recovered, say cops

    Even as the CB-CID began investigation into the murder of former Tirunelveli Mayor, her husband and housemaid, the local police claimed that its special teams cracked the case after finding the murder weapons, clothes the accused wore at the time of the crime and the jewels stolen from the victims’ house.

    In a statement on Tuesday night, Tirunelveli city police Commissioner N Baskaran the seven teams formed in the wake of triple murder reviewed the CCTV footage and found a suspicious car (TN -07 AK 4500), which was found to be owned by Sannasi, father of the accused Karthikeyan (33).


    They also found two knives used for the murder in the extended area of Kakkan Nagar near Palayamkottai. Sources added that the teams also recovered the burnt remains of a bloodstained shirt, footwear and a cap from a spot in Kakkan Nagar.


    The Commissioner’s statement added that 21 sovereigns, including two chains and six bangles, a wrist watch and a ring were also recovered from Karthikeyan’s house in Shanthi Nagar. Earlier, the team led by D Mahesh, Deputy Commissioner, Tirunelveli City (Crime), inspected the house where the accused was taken amid tight security.


    Meanwhile, the CB-CID launched its probe into triple murder on Tuesday. The team led by SP Vijayakumar inspected the house where the murder happened. The ten-member team, including DSP Anil Kumar and inspector Piraichandran, got access at around 1 am. The inspection lasted for about 15 minutes. The accused would soon be produced before court in Tirunelveli, sources added.


    On July 23, former Mayor of Tirunelveli Corporation Uma Maheshwari (65), her husband Murugasankar (72) and housemaid Mariammal (40) were found murdered at their house in Rose Nagar in Reddiarpatti, Tirunelveli. The Melapalayam police registered a case under Sections 302 and 380 of IPC. After the case sent shockwaves, it was soon handed over to the CB-CID.
