The State government has also decided to constitute a committee comprising academicians, educationists, teachers, and parents to investigate all aspects of the education policy before submitting its report to Ministry of Human Resources and Development (MHRD), which had released the policy recently.

A senior official from the Higher Education Department told DT Next that State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) has been entrusted to collect online suggestions and feedback from various stakeholders including teachers, professors, public, parents-teachers associations, teachers’ union.

Stating that most of the feedback were from teachers’ association and college professors’ union, the official said that they are expecting more from public. “We have received more than 3,000 suggestions so far. The response is very good,” he added.

According to the official, the suggestions will be scrutinized, and important issues will be taken both to school education and higher education. “All the pros and cons will be taken into consideration and a comprehensive report will be generated by the committee and submitted at the end of August.”

The official added that the State’s stance on the policy will be sent to the MHRD after consulting with the chief minister.

The Committee for Draft National Education Policy, under MHRD, submitted its report on May 31, 2019. The report proposes an education policy seeking to address the challenges such as access, equity, quality, affordability, and accountability faced by the current education system.
