A senior official from SCERT told DT Next, that schools must have trained teachers to help children experiencing psychological and emotional problems and provide counselling to child and parent. “Teachers should evolve peer groups to check drug abuse or any other form of abuse taking place within the school,” he added.

He stated thatteachers should make classes interesting and informative and they should be encouraged to clear doubts them. Regular Parents Teachers Association (PTA) meetings will provide a platform between teachers and parents on the child’s overall development and not just progress in academics

The official added that parents should ensure that their wards know their full details, including name, address, phone number and how to use a telephone.

“Director of School Education will instruct all the sub-ordinate officers and schools under Directorate of School Education to form child protection units and send a report to SCERT,” the official said.
