Kerala gang held, 3.5 kg gold, Rs 13 lakh seized
Five members of a gang involved in the daring robbery at a jewellery shop in Kerala were arrested by police in Salem during a vehicle check on Monday.

Following their arrest, police seized 3.5 kilograms of gold and Rs 13 lakhs in cash from their possession. The gang members had looted jewels and cash after tying up the staff of jewellery shop owned by Suresh, 45 at Pathanamthitta in Kerala on Sunday.
Investigations by police revealed that Akshay, 25, a native of Maharashtra, who joined the shop few days ago, had masterminded the robbery. Akshay who was arrested within a few hours of the incident, confessed that his friends had fled away with the loot to Salem with a plan to go elsewhere.
Acting on the tip off by Kerala police, special teams of police were deployed to inspect vehicles. Police intercepted a speeding car near Uthamasolapuram near Salem on suspicion. While interrogating, one of them Nitin Jade, 23 managed to flee away with jewels and cash. Police then took four others identified as Ganapathy Jade, 26, Prasad Jade, 20, Akash Karat, 28, Kadhasahib Prabakar Kaiwat, 23 to Kondalampatty police station. Meanwhile, Nitin, who was found wandering around suspiciously in Neykarapatty area was also nabbed by public and handed over to police.
Police seized a total of 3.5 kilograms of gold, Rs 13.10 lakhs in cash and a car from the robbery gang. On receiving information of their arrest, the Kerala police visited Salem and took the five persons into custody for interrogation. Salem City Police Commissioner T Senthil Kumar rewarded the cops for nabbing the robbery gang. He also rewarded three members of public K Selvam, Sakthivel and P Selvam acknowledging their help in nabbing the absconding accused.
