Women are not safe in Tamil Nadu: Kanimozhi
Women are still not safe in Tamil Nadu, Thoothukudi MP Kanimozhi on Saturday said when she paid homage to the late Mayor of Tirunelveli Corporation, Uma Maheswari, and her husband Murugasankar, who were murdered at their house in Tirunelveli district. Their housemaid Mariammal was also killed by the attackers.

Kanimozhi, who is also the DMK women’s wing secretary, along with cadres, paid tributes to the victims and consoled the bereaved families. Talking to reporters, Kanimozhi said even with the rise of murders and honour killings in the State, nothing has been done to prevent or act against such incidents.
On the gruesome triple murder in Tirunelveli, Kanimozhi wondered whether the police were probing the case as they haven’t caught the accused even after a few days from the incident now. Culprits behind the murder should be nabbed soon, Kanimozhi said. She also spent time consoling the bereaved families of Mariammal who is survived by three daughters. She then visited the bereaved family of DMK functionary, V S Karunakaran, at their house, who died on July 22 at Kulavankarisal. Earlier at Thoothukudi airport, Kanimozhi said despite raising the issue of drinking water crisis which has been prevailing in Tamil Nadu, in Parliament and the State assembly, remedial measures had not been taken up by the government. Though Ministers said a solution would be arrived to end the problem, nothing had been done to ensure drinking water supply here, Kanimozhi said.
