Contradiction in FIR and what I spoke: Ranjith
In what may be a U-turn from his earlier comments, film director Pa Ranjith, who is facing a case for allegedly making controversial comments against King Raja Raja Chola, on Wednesday stated that there was vast contradiction between what he had mentioned in his public speech and the FIR filed against him over the remarks.

After appearing at the Thirupananthal police station to sign as per order from the court that recently granted him conditional bail, Ranjith on Wednesday appeared before Tiruvidaimaruthur DSP AT Ramachandran for an interrogation, who then inquired whether the filmmaker really made controversial comments against the Chola dynasty king.
Ranjith then reportedly claimed that there was a contradiction between what he spoke at the public meeting and what was reported in the FIR, and asked the police to record his statement and make corrections accordingly. The DSP recorded his statements, following which Ranjith left the police station along with his counsel.
It may be recalled that director Ranjith participated in a public meeting at Thirupananthal bazaar near Kumbakonam on June 5, where his alleged comments against King Raja Raja Chola led to public opposition and widespread protests across the region. The Thirupananthal police inspector, Kavitha, subsequently registered a case against Ranjith on June 10 under three IPC sections.
Later, Ranjith approached the Madurai bench of the Madras High Court seeking anticipatory bail, upon which the High Court bench directed him to approach the Kumbakonam court within 15 days for getting conditional bail.
