    Days after attack on functionary, petrol bombs hurled at house of HM leader’s sister

    Even before the tension over the attack on a Hindu Munnani functionary and his father eased, the house of the sister of another functionary of the same outfit was attacked with petrol bombs by miscreants in Pudukkottai during the wee hours of Monday.

    Tension prevailed in several parts of Pudukkottai after the attack. Fortunately, there was no loss of life or injury. A two-wheeler parked in front of the house was damaged in the attack, police said.


    Around 3.30 am on Monday, Thirunavukarasu (36), brother in law of Vadivelu (36), the Pudukkottai district Hindu Munnani president and resident of Vanakkankadu near Alangudi heard a thud. When Thirunavukarasu stepped out to check, he was shocked to see his two-wheeler burning. Only then he realised that miscreants had hurled petrol bomb at his house.


    On information, SP Selvaraj, Alangudi DSP Mohandas, Vadakadu inspector and a police team rushed to the spot and conductedinquiries.


    As a precautionary measure, security has been beefed up to avert further incidents in the region. Vaakadu police registered a case and are investigating.


    It may be recalled that on July 14 night, G Muruganandam (29), Alangudi Town president of Hindu Munnani, owner of a flex banner shop, and his father were attacked by a seven-member gang in his shop. The severely injured Muruganandam and his father Ganesan were rushed to Alangudi GH from where they were referred to Pudukkottai Medical College Hospital. Later both were shifted to a private hospital in Thanjavur.


    Meanwhile, Mustafa, one of the identified persons who assaulted the father-son due was seen travelling in a private bus from Alangudi to Pudukkottai on July 15 wee hours and a group of unidentified persons stopped the bus at Vamban area and thrashed him severely Mustafa sustained serious injuries in the attack. Police rescued and rushed him to Pudukkottai medical college hospital.
