    Cancer centre of excellence planned in Kanchi at Rs 120 cr

    Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Wednesday announced that the state transport department will purchase 2,000 new buses at a cost of Rs 600 crore.

    The new buses would be launched in the current fiscal and to meet the growing demand of fleet 10 government transport corporation depots would be modernised at a cost of Rs 50 crore.


    Making a suo motto statement in the Assembly under Rule 110, the Chief Minister also unveiled plans to construct a cancer centre of excellence in Kancheepuram district at a cost of Rs 120 crore.


    The Chief Minister also announced projects for health department to a tune of Rs 500 crore. The centre of excellence specialising in cancer will come up at the Arignar Anna Memorial Cancer Hospital at Kancheepuram and another major super speciality hospital will come up in Erode to cater the public from rural areas, Palaniswami said.


    To provide 12 integrated health services to people, including disease prevention and pain alleviation, additional primary health centres and urban PHCS would be upgraded and sanctioned a sum of Rs 105 crore. These PHCs after upgradation will be named as Wellness Centres, Palaniswami said.


    Under the Tamil Nadu Accident and Emergency Care Initiative, a multi-disciplinary critical care unit will be set up in all the 32 districts of Tamil Nadu at a cost of Rs 49.01 crore.


    Other health sector schemes announced were a Rs 40 crore rehabilitation centre at a city government health facility, Rs 16 crore linear accelerator for Salem Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College and Hospital and purchase of automatic drug vending machines at cost of Rs 80 lakh.


    Under the corporate social responsibility, a new initiative “My Hospital My Pride” will be taken and the medical aspirants will be given counselling to reduce the tendency of suicides, Palaniswami added.
