TN seeks public opinion on draft education policy
For the first time, the Tamil Nadu government has decided to seek public opinion on the draft education policy, proposed by the Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD) recently.

Tamil Nadu State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) has been entrusted to get the feedback from the stakeholders and the public so that the government could prepare a comprehensive report and send it to the Centre shortly.
A senior official from SCERT said that the draft education policy has been translated to Tamil and posted online for public view.
He said the policy in English version contains 484 pages, which is complicated, and many will find it difficult to read. “Therefore, the draft was carefully translated and made into 50 pages for the Tamil version”, he said adding all the points were made to be read easily.
“The government has decided to get feedback from the people to send the State opinion to MHRD”, he added. According to the official, the suggestions will be scrutinized and taken into consideration.
Stating that key points will be sent to the committee, comprising SCERT officials and authorities of school and higher education department, the official said that the members will discuss and include the feedback in their report.
The SCERT official said on the first day, more than 500 suggestions were received. “The last date to submit the opinion is on July 25,” he added.
Meanwhile, the initiative to seek public opinion was hailed by educationists in the State. The State Platform for Common School System (SPCSS-TN) general secretary, P B Prince Gajendra Babu, said the opinion will help authorities frame State-based suggestion.
Similarly, Tamil Nadu Teachers Association President, P K Ilamaran, added that now anyone can understand the draft policy, as it is nowin Tamil.
