Addressing reporters, the Ministersaid, “The state government condemns the announcement not to conduct postal examination in Tamil and other regional languages. Unlike oppositionparties we cannot just condemn and remain inactive, but will take up the issue with the Union government for the rights of the regional languages, including Tamil and will make them conduct the postal examinations in Tamil and other regional languages.”
The announcement of Centre to conduct postal test only in English and Hindi had triggered a controversy and politicians of all the major parties, including the parties in alliance with BJP condemned the Centre for it. They also demanded the government to withdraw the notification and conduct examination in all the regional languages, including Tamil.
Tamizhaga Vazhvurimai Katchi leader, Velmurugan, on Sunday, said that through the announcement the Centre had decided to give job only to people who know Hindi and to place North Indians in all the post offices in the state. State should protest and make the Centre withdraw the announcement, he demanded. He also warned that if the Centre continues with its decision, his party cadre will stage protest in front of all the post offices.
Move to prevent exam fraud: Ponnar
In the meantime, former Union minister Pon Radhakrishnan, defended the Centre by saying that it decided to hold test only in Hindi and English as in the previous years there were many fraudulent activities reported while conducting the test in regional languages, including Tamil. “Last year several candidates from Haryana scored high marks in Tamil and only later it was found that they have obtained marks through fraudulent activities. To prevent such frauds, the Centre decided not to hold examinations in regional languages,” said Pon Radhakrishnan.
