4 mill workers killed as bus collides with car
Four persons died after their car collided head on with a government bus that was coming in the opposite direction near Vellakovil in Tirupur on Saturday night.

According to the police, R Muralikrishnan (33), K Natraj, M Sundaram and S Sornamurthy (20) along with two others were bound to Karaikal from Coimbatore and the incident happened on Karur National Highways near Vellakovil area.
All of them were working as labourers in a private mill. “As one of their colleagues fell ill, six of them had left in the car of their manager to see him, on Saturday night. While nearing Othakadai pirivu, a government bus crashed into their car,” police said.
In the impact, all the four persons were crushed to death on the spot while two others, identified as Suresh and Balachandran, suffered serious injuries. On receiving information, the Vellakovil police rushed to the spot and sent the duo to Vellakovil Government Hospital.
After first aid, they both were sent to a private hospital in Sulur. The bodies of the four persons have been sent for autopsy to Kangeyam Government Hospital. A total of 22 passengers, who were in the bus, however escaped unhurt.
The police arrested the bus driver Muruganandan (44), a native of Karur, who was then produced in court and remanded in custody.
