    Cops open fire at ganja peddlers

    The police opened fire at a car in which two ganja peddlers were smuggling the banned product to Andhra Pradesh as the duo failed to stop their car despite warning in Perambalur on Saturday.

    It is said that when police were involved in the vehicle checkup at Thirumanthurai near Perambalur in Tiruchy-Chennai bypass road at around 12.40 pm, a car on a high speed did not stop despite warning from the police. Hence, the police were forced to open fire at the tyre of the car. Immediately the duo stopped car and the police rushed to the spot and secured the car. Upon inquiry, the occupants in the car confessed that they were transporting ganja to Madurai from Andhra Pradesh. The accused were identified as Murugan and Padamuniyasamy from Madurai and they were said to be habitual offenders. Subsequently, the police seized the car and the ganja weighing 180 kg.
