During a special call attention motion brought by DMK MLA R Sakkarapani, Sengottaiyan said orders have been issued for the allotment of 3 per cent quota for sportspersons in the recruitment for identified posts in government departments and provisions for the appointment of meritorious sportspersons in PSUs.

Soon after the question hour, DMK legislator Sakkarapani raised the issue and said that government should provide jobs for students who won sports competitions at district and state level.

Replying to Sakkarapani, Sengottaiyan said that as per the new government order, appointments were given to two outstanding sportspersons to work in Tangedco and TNPL.

The Minister also pointed out that 10 per cent sports quota has been provided for sportspersons in uniformed services through the recruitment done by the Tamil Nadu Uniformed Services Recruitment Board.

“Further 10 per cent reservation for sportspersons has been provided in direct recruitment to the posts of foresters, forest guards, forest watchers and drivers in the Tamil Nadu Forest Subordinate Service,” he added.

He said that sportspersons, who won gold medal in either Olympic or world championship event or Common Wealth Games or Asian Games, category one jobs will be provided in PSUs. “Likewise, if they won silver in any one of these events, they will be provided category two employment in PSUs,” he added.
