    Chief Minister moots envoy team for investments

    Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Friday announced setting up of an envoy team, comprising representatives belonging to various Tamil associations and experts from industries, to share ideas and create awareness and attract more investments to the state.

    He announced a series of welfare measures for Industries, Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and Information Technology departments to the tune of more than Rs 1,400 crore. 

    Under the Rule 110, the Chief Minister told the House that the envoy team will be working with “Yaadhum Oorey,” a separate division to be formed at a cost of Rs 60 lakh. 

    Chief Minister Palaniswami also announced that an online grievance portal titled “Biz Buddy” will be set up at a cost of Rs 50 lakh to look into various issues of the investors and bring out solutions within four weeks.

    In a bid to increase local exports, Palaniswami also informed the House that building infrastructure will be improved in SIPCOT at Kancheepuram and Erode at a cost of Rs 50 crore.

    Stating that Siruseri SIPCOT will also get new training centres and conference halls at a cost of Rs 40 crore, the Chief Minister said a desalination plant, that would generate 60 million litre of water, will be established at Thoothukudi SIPCOT to solve the drinking water crisis.

    Sops for MSMEs

    In order to increase production of all MSMEs in the state Palaniswami said the subsidy given to logistics investments has been increased to Rs 50 lakh from the present Rs 30 lakh. The initiative will cost the exchequer to the tune of Rs 20 crore.

    In addition, financial assistance of Rs 3.33 crore will be extended to Cyclone Gaja affected women rope producers in Thanjavur, Pudukkottai and Theni districts.

    The Chief Minister also said new government industrial training centres will be setup in Kancheepuram and Nagapattinam districts at a cost of Rs 26 crore. The work will be started in collaboration with Powergrid Corporation and Bharath Petroleum Corporation.

    Further, in a bid for a safe transaction, Palaniswami said that the government will bring out ‘blockchain backbone infrastructure,’ a financial digital entry. 

    He said the new system will be installed at a cost of Rs 40.80 crore and all the government transaction will digitally sign to ensure its authenticity and that no one tampers with it.
