According to the police, Niranjan Kumar, a native of Bihar, was employed at a mill in Chinniyampalayam and stayed in the locality. “He was in love with a 13-year-old girl, who is the daughter of a mill worker. Promising to marry her, the youth decided to take her to his hometown by train,” the police said.
As the girl went missing from her house on Thursday, her parents lodged a complaint with the Peelamedu police. Upon enquiring with Niranjan’s friends, the police learnt that he was taking the girl with him to Bihar by Dhanbad Express. They also claimed that the youth had booked tickets for him and the girl in S7 coach.
Following this, the Peelamedu police intensified vigil at the Coimbatore railway station.
Once the Dhanbad Express arrived there around noon, the police carried out a search in the particular coach and also other compartments. However, the youth and the girl could not be found.
The police suspect that the duo would not have turned up at the railway station upon learning of the search.
However, they added that there was a possibility for the duo to have boarded the train from some other station.
Due to the police search, the train was delayed in its departure from the station by a few minutes.
The police have registered a case of kidnapping and have alerted the Railway police to search for the duo in stations en route.
