EB worker held for killing Tiruchy youth

According to sources, M Rajini alias Karuppiah (32), a notorious rowdy from Kumaresapuram here, was on Monday reportedly waylaid by a gang and was killed, while his friend Ranjith sustained injuries. A case was registered and investigations were on.

Based on a tip-off that the gang had escaped by car after murdering Rajini, the Tiruvarumbur police identified the gang and arrested them while on a chase. The police arrested all the five passengers. They were identified as Kirubakaran (46), his wife Nithya (40), an assistant Engineer with TANGEDCO at Mannarpuram, Karthik (23), Sasikumar (22) and Suresh Kumar (41).

Further inquiries found that the deceased Rajini and Kirubakaran were partners in a fish farm and Kirubakaran had reportedly given Rs 3 lakh to Rajini who promised to return it. However, the business did not turn out to be successful, and Kirubakaran asked for the money he lent to Rajini. However, Rajini failed to return it and allegedly abused Kirubakaran.

At a point, Rajini even reportedly harassed Kirubakaran’s wife, Nithya. This had angered Kirubakaran who then planned to murder him.  As per plan, the accused had waylaid Rajini and murdered him.

The police later chased the gang and arrested them. The police are also searching for a few others who are suspected to have involved in the crime.
